The debate rages on in my mail box regarding Zelda and the mean things I said to the people who don’t like it. You will notice that we have a new Zelda ad over on the right side of the page today. I think that those of you suggesting some kind of Nintendo Fanboyism on my part would do well to look at today’s cartoon before you send me anymore mail on the subject. Tycho and I don’t have any special loyalties to any companies…well besides Sprite. What we do is try and support good GAMES whether they be on the GC, the PS2 or God help us even on the XBox.
With that said I would like to reiterate my stance that Zelda is one of the finest gaming experiences I have ever had. This week Nintendo is sort of testing the Penny Arcade waters with an ad that will only run for a couple days. You might remember Sega did the same thing last week. You might also remember that we asked you to please click the hell out of that ad for us. Well I thought I’d share a couple figures with you just so you know how you guys did and to sort of keep you in the loop. First you should know that the industry average click through rate (how many times an ad is shown vs. how many times it gets clicked) is under 1 percent. In fact I think it’s something like .5 percent right now. I thought that was crazy until I thought about how many times I have ever actually clicked on an ad. The click through rate for the Sega ad we ran last week was almost 7 percent. You guys are the shit. We were actually worried that Sega would look at the numbers we had and think we were lying. So if it would be possible for you guys to leverage that same kind of clicking ferocity against this new Nintendo ad we would certainly appreciate it.
I’ll probably be back with more later but I have to go get my hair cut. I want to look nice for the people in Kansas this weekend.

I am routinely disappointed in our Ninformant.
He’s a cool guy and everything, but he doesn’t tell us jack about what’s going on at Nintendo. For a while I thought I had a system for determining valid data, he has this smile he does, but now I realize that he’s just smiling because he is happy or some shit. It’s got nothing to do with the question at hand, I could ask about a new 3D screen or dog balls and it’s the same little smirk.
So when he tells me about something that is genuinely interesting, I’m always taken aback - not because it’s genuinely interesting, but because he said anything at all. Ninformant, though I like the turn of phrase, is wholly inapt.
This is what he showed us on Saturday. It is interesting, but also sort of psychotic, and it suggests that the developers might be dangerously overstimulated.

Along with some of the new songs they have listed, there are some play videos of Amplitude over at Freq dot com that you’d have to see to believe.

I thought I would share the stats with you for the Nintendo Ad as of 12:00 noon. Keep in mind it just went up this morning.
Total Impressions: 57,928
Click-Throughs: 7,469
Click-Through Rate: 12.89%
You guys kick ass, thanks for your support on this one.
I have had lots of people asking about the merchandise I posted yesterday and when it might be available online. One thing after another seems to keep delaying the opening of our online store but I think we pretty much have it under control now. After the Kansas City Comicon and Sakuracon we will re-stock all of our stuff and then open the store for business. I’m guessing that will be middle to late next month. I’m also hoping to have a new shirt design for the grand opening. I’m thinking either Mr. Period or a new Wang Fu design.

I am happy to let Gabriel be your source for hyperbolic boosterism where our merchandise is concerned, but I do need to establish that the Cardboard Tube Samurai shirts are the best shirts mankind has produced. It’s been a long road, species - but if nothing else, you can at least say the shirts were good.
Gabe mentioned that there would be a restock before the store opened up, but he neglected to note that we would have CTS and Div shirts in the “baby tee” size. I don’t know that we will sell them all, in fact I rather doubt it. But this lack of appropriately sized garb is something we frequently hear lamented at cons, and it is well within our power to resolve the issue.

Holy fuck these are funny posters.

Did he just insult me? I can never tell with him. Just incase he did I will say that he is a cockjockey. Better to be safe.
