I don’t know whose fault it is exactly, mine or theirs, but I won’t be installing Vista anytime soon.  I would like some crazy shit to happen when I minimize, something don’t get me wrong.  I want my windows to go Waja-wajow(!) if possible.  But if there’s a great reason to "trade horses midstream" (or whatever the going metaphor is) I haven’t discovered it.

I actually feel kind of guilty about it.

I’ve been the PC holdout in my group for awhile, now.  Kiko plays RTS, a genre until very recently was dominated by the platform, but the moment a viable interface was available on the 360 he pulled the emergency stirrup and let his computer crash to earth.  Gabe plays WoW on his PC sometimes, but (and this is serious) only if he happens to be upstairs, because he prefers to play on his MacBook.  There’s no allegiance there.

He never had to massage conventional memory.  He never played Civilization or Star Control II, and wouldn’t like them if he had.  Nine times out of ten these days my friends are playing the games they play on consoles.  Many of my favorite, historically PC centered developers are now focused on the dedicated consumer hardware called consoles, I assume because people actually buy software for them, which is great if you are a person who makes software.  So it’s nice to have a unique perspective or whatever, but when the result of cleaving to that ideal is isolation the appeal does thin a bit.

We suggest that there are, perhaps, too many versions of Vista - but I imagine that one could probably be happy with the "Ultimate" product, seeing as it’s, you know…  so ultimate.  It’s not clear to me what that means, and I’m sure I could find out, but the choice before me really amounts to buying - actively purchasing, now - a lower framerate and the other unpredictable costs of moving in.

Kiko and others have suggested that they share no trepidation when they install a new Apple OS, a process I’ll be familiarized with soon enough I suppose, but the scale differential between Vista and this year’s cat themed update is nontrivial.  In any case, delivering nearly annual, full pay releases of an operating system is indistinguishable from a lease as far as I’m concerned.  I don’t know why I should celebrate it.

FIRE SALE!

Not unlike your local furniture store, Penny Arcade is having a fire sale. We haven’t “lost our lease” or anything like that but it’s still true that “everything must go!” Think Geek has been really incredible to us but we’ve decided to take our store and our merchandise in house. Sometime in early March we’ll be launching our very own Penny Arcade store that will be integrated into the site.

Before that happens though, we need to clean out our existing inventory. This link will take you to the Penny Arcade fire sale.

FIRE SALE! EVERYTHING MUST GO!

Everything you see there will be discontinued once it’s gone. These are items that will not be making the jump to the new store and they’ve been discounted to a ridiculous degree in most cases. So if you have any desire to own any of this stuff, now is the time. I don’t want to bother you guys with it and I hate being “that guy” but it’s super important that we move all this stuff.

I’ve also heard reports that our third book “The Warsun Prophecies” is showing up in book stores. This book contains all the strips from the year 2002. It also happens to contain the first ever glimpse at the Penny Arcade game. The back of the book has a bunch of my concept artwork for the game as well as commentary about the production. We’ve been very tight lipped about “on the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness” Since its initial announcement at PAX last year. If you’re curious about what we’re doing, the material in this book is a good first peak.
