An in-depth look at Apple’s failed gaming console
Remember when there was a series of video game consoles that aspired to be computing devices as well as gaming hardware? The idea has basically gone away, even today our consoles are media boxes and don't often dive into the idea of being more generalized computing platforms.
Anyway, remember the Apple Pippin? It was a strange device that might have put Apple in the living room, but instead went nowhere. Few people even remember that it existed. This is a very interesting look at where the system came from, as well as what went wrong along the way.
People sometimes joke about the idea of the "Apple console" today, but when so many of us are already playing games on our Apple-designed pocket computers there may be no need to own the living room. The trick is to own our eyes.
