EA continues to berate itself for its own games, currently shaming: Battlefield 3
I never would have noticed this trend if Ben hadn't previously written about EA's truly bizarre habit of throwing their old games under the bus in an attempt to hype their latest.
The most obvious examples concern their sports games as they face the unenviable task of explaining why their new game blows the old game out of the water every single year.
This time they've moved the shaming to the Battlefield series as Battlefield 4's own creative director remarked that they "should be slapped" for shipping Battlefield 3 with the unlock system in the state it was in.
This has got to be the most bizarre and strangely manipulative form of video game marketing. EA is a successful company though, and the franchises they use this tactic on tend to do very well. It's an entirely backward marketing plan, but it certainly seems to have merit.
