EA shocks/delights fans with new Mirror’s Edge title, possible a prequel
Few games of the past five years have been more celebrated or more mourned by fans than Mirror's Edge. After debuting to rave reviews, but mediocre sales, the Mirror's Edge series went into hibernation. All the while, fans continued to clamor for a new title in the series.
Today, at their E3 press conference, EA made dreams come true with the announcement of a new title in the Mirror's Edge universe. The announcement featured scant information, but did feature a new trailer. In the trailer, the main character, Faith, is being tattooed with her trademark ink, which seems to suggest that this may be a prequel.
At the end of the trailer, the game's logo is shown with the release date listed as “...when it's ready.” The game will be using EA's Frostbite engine. Right now the game seems to be known as simply “Mirror's Edge” and is not being called “Mirror's Edge 2” in official EA communications.
We reached out to writer Rhianna Pratchett, who wrote the original game and the Mirror's Edge comics, and she stated that she wasn't approached to write this title.
Update: The game is a reboot of the series, and is coming to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, according to EA.
The new Mirror’s Edge reboots the franchise for the next generation with advanced visuals and an all-new origin story for Faith. Powered by DICE’s proprietary Frostbite technology, the game will be heading to Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation 4, and PC.
