Failure as comedy: why making gamers terrible is funny as hell
I don't know how I missed this trend in games, but it's interesting as hell. As gamers we often expect mastery of our hobby, and we want to feel good about the progress we make as we practice and improve our skills at the games we play. So why is failing so much fun?
The games listed in this article make comedy out of our inability to play them well, and in fact our fumbling is part of the fun of these titles. Forcing players to bumble their way through a game, and in fact making that tragic failure part of the joke, is kind of a bold move. But the examples provided are all amazing games.
Being awful can be a good thing, I guess.
