How Oculus survived tragedy during Rift’s moment in the sun
Too often in the gaming industry we talk about businesses like they're singular entities, and we forget that these companies are made up of many real people, with lives and families and personal lives.
The sudden death of Oculus co-founder Andrew Reiss was a reminder of that fact, and it came right as the product was ready to enjoy another round of great publicity and acclaim from the press.
This piece from Venture Beat gives us a look at what it was like around Oculus after Reiss' untimely passing right before E3 and the reveal of their HD model. There are many other great details about the company in the interview, but dealing with this sort of loss during what should have been a time of celebration is something that few companies have to deal with, and this is a look into what that process was like from the inside.
The Oculus Rift went on to win Best Hardware from the E3 Game Critic Awards.
