Ocarina of Time has many versions, and a master speedrunner prefered one above all others
In the past we've written about how the true strength of eSports is in teaching gamers how competitive games are designed, and how they're meant to be played at the highest levels.
There's something similar going on in the world of speedrunning as they teach us about how games are made, the loopholes in world design, and in this case the weird, tiny differences that crop up in each version of the game over time.
In this piece, the master speedrunner, Cosmo Wright, breaks down the many versions of the game, and in doing so, shows why he chose the Chinese iQue version for his world record Ocarina of Time run this month, and the main reason is actually surprisingly simple.
