PlayStation 4 undercuts Xbox One by $100, won’t require online connection to play
Sony announced at their E3 press conference today that the PlayStation 4 will cost $399 in the United States, $399 Euros in Europe, and £349 in the UK.
They also said that the system will not impose any restrictions on game ownership or any sort of online requirement.
“We believe in the model that people embrace today,” said Sony President Jack Tretton on stage. He was unequivocal in stating that the sytem would not restrict the way game owners sell, trade, and loan their games.
He also added that the PS4 would not require any sort of always-on internet connection. He elaborated further by saying that it would also not feature a system such as the one employed by the Xbox One, which requires the console to check-in with the home servers once every 24 hours.
PlayStation 4 is slated to launch sometime in “Holiday 2013.”
