The odd story of Silicon Knights, Precursor Games, and the Eternal Darkness crowdfunding effort
This is a great piece of reporting, and it raises all sorts of questions about the crowdfunding efforts going on to create the spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness. It's hard to know exactly what's going on, but it seems like one entity was all but shuttered, while developers and resources where moved to a new company that will continue without all the negative baggage of the Silicon Knights name.
The whole thing is messy, although reading about what's being said officially and what the evidence actually suggests is interesting. I don't have much to add to this story, other than it's sad to see a developer that used to seem so promising be reduced to a skeleton crew, if that.
Still, just in case things aren't weird enough, Wired reported that Precursor Games bought art assets from Silicon Knights. So Precursor Games is using Silicon Knights equipment, Silicon Knights talent, and work done by Silicon Knights artists, but it's a completely different company with no relationship with Silicon Knights, a company that is claimed to be "alive."
This is one of the stranger stories in gaming right now.
