The secret arcade deep inside a London industrial park
Rather than quietly blinking out of existence, arcade enthusiasts around the world are apparently choosing to go underground rather than face the extinction of the much beloved arcade.
This story reminds me of another from a while back about arcades in San Francisco surviving in unlikely places of the city. Where once the arcade fluorished as a centerpiece of the local mall, today they are being tucked away in the cheapest, subtlest places imaginable.
What's amazing is that it appears to be working. The idea sounds absurd, until you consider that an arcade's clientelle are hardcore fans who are willing to go out of their way to keep the arcade spirit alive.
Will the arcade ever truly die off? Probably. Eventually. But this generation seems willing to perform CPR on the arcade scene until their own dying breath.
