People positively lost their shit over this particular Kickstarter, and I have no doubt much of the hatred directed towards Susan and her daughter is due to a game of telephone; “Did you hear about the kid asking for $829 on Kickstarter? Weird, but kind of cute!”

“Did you hear about the mom who made a Kickstarter for her daughter to send her to camp? Who is she, anyway?”

“Did you hear about the millionaire mom who scammed Kinkos and is now ripping people off on Kickstarter? I hope she dies.”

Ben said he's received a few dozen e-mails demanding that he denounce this woman, and he asked everyone for any evidence of actual wrong doing. No one was able to provide any, but they were willing to send along a link to someone on Reddit who said it was bad.

One of the saddest things about the whole mess is that, while people could obsessively search for and dig into Wilson's personal history and finances, they couldn't be bothered to take the time Fahey did to actually, you know, learn about her situation. One person sees a picture of her with Warren Buffet and declares they must be business partner equals. By that logic, Santa and I are best buds, because I've got plenty of pics from my tours of Santa's Castle.
