Out of the frying pan, into three suprisingly unpleasant panels! I don't know what the memory situation is for frog eggs but we gotta hope just for his sake that his occipital lobe hasn't developed yet. He doesn't super need it right now because of the jar situation and it's fine if all that stuff just kinda happens… out there.
Man. So. It's been a pretty sophisticated couple of days. Expedition 33, a game someone much younger than me would say is having a "generational run," is a house fallen into ruin and disrepair. It had its Debut Indie Game and its Game of the Year awards rescinded by the Indie Game Awards, which had a legitimately heartwarming presentation this year and you should watch it. Sandfall Interactive said that AI wasn't used as a qualification for award consideration, but that wasn't a hundred percent, you know, vrai. So their Game of the Year award devolved down to Blue Prince, which then had its own AI usage accusation from The Escapist which was… well, I guess you'd call it a lie.
Larian is in so much trouble. You wanna know how much trouble? They're gonna do an AMA. I can see you pursing your lips and nodding your head. Yeah, son - it's like that. The AI shit opened the door a crack, and then tons of game writers burst in like an arctic wind to talk about their hiring practices.
Even Ironmouse is in trouble, and she is a 3d model of a Puerto Rican anime woman! I'm not sure I've seen a flip on our elites this fast in a hot-ass minute. We're just swapping the whole rack.
It's simply the case that many, many people find something objectionable about these models. Its proponents sometimes project bizarre fantasies onto people who work in creative industries, they get real philosophical with it, as though we don't like it because it's some kind of personal affront. I mean, it's definitely a mockery of the human spirit and they're summoning demons. But that's not my actual problem with it.
I don't feel special because I can write. When I have a good idea, one I can look at objectively and say, "I do not hate this idea," it doesn't even feel like it came from me. It feels like it came from outer space. So let's put that one to rest right now: It's not some assault on my ego or whatever. The value of Generative AI is based on theft. Until that gets dealt with, I don't want to talk about whatever the fuck they want to talk about.
I had a chance to tour backstage at Saturday Night Live back when I was a noteworthy individual; I met one guy there and he was the one who made the graphics for the News Update. I didn't keep in touch with him or whatever but I bet he doesn't have that job anymore. It's that, stacked on top of that, multiplied by that, forever.
Don't even start me on the fuckin' externalities. If nVidia is producing less consumer cards and RAM suppliers are leaving the consumer market and laptops are considering smaller RAM pools as a default that all starts to look like a really stark return to Centralization in the classic technology cycle. It's sci-fi shit where computation becomes a currency and thus gets apportioned to the usual suspects. You ever read any books? Any of this ringing a bell? Merry Christmas, I guess. Jesus Christ.
(CW)TB out.
