The Tithe, Part Three

Oh ho, who’s this?  Why yes, now that you ask, I am obsessed with the Triple Goddess.  Between this and the sixth issue of the comic series, you’ve got some fairly strong datapoints there.  There’s a page later in the series I want to talk about, but I can’t, which is sort of weird or me.  As my cohort suggested previously, we are way ahead of the game on this project.  We’d be way ahead by any reckoning, but specifically for us, it’s almost inconceivable.  We make comics seven to ten hours before they’re required.  That I would have knowledge of any kind about upcoming strips feels like prescience.

Card Hunter, the “deck rebuilder” I have emitted countless phosphors over, comes out tomorrow and I could not be more jealous of those who have never played it.  I typically dread the beta wipe, the curtain of fire that accompanies the end of days.  Here, I want to thank them.  I know so much more than I did before.  If I had any advice, it would go like this:

- I said “deck rebuilder” because it’s what I missed in a big way.  You can create versatile sets, but just like in the old stories it can come down to bringing the correct totem.  You need to roll prepared.  If you’re fighting a bunch of ranged wizardly jerkoffs and their elemental imps, that dwarf fighter of yours is gonna need to augment their mobility and mitigate that kind of magic.  That’s true even if the set you build isn’t valid for a broad range of encounters.  You can always change shoes before the next fight.

- Think of yourself as a guildmaster, as opposed to a party leader.  I fucked this one up, too.  What’s true internal to a character is true at the meta level: that “balanced” party of yours is going to look so nice balanced on slabs in that mausoleum.  By all means, try again.  The variety of experiences you can get out of the same preconditions is super broad, and this Goddamned card AI is engineered to shred players.  But sometimes your party comp is part of the problem - you are going to want to have other characters in the wings for when you want to be the ones winning from a distance.

- Don’t be afraid of multiplayer.  That one is as much for me as you.

(CW)TB out.
