I remember playing the original Dino Crisis, apparently they made a bunch more, but after we'd seen a velociraptor come through a window in precisely the same way a zombified dog had come through a window previously I felt comfortable moving on to something else. Also, I kinda like dinosaurs. I like them just as much as I did when I was, like, eight. I honor them. I guess they're birds or something now? I'll ask Abby Howard at PAX, she'll know.
Capcom's new reptile ruckus is called EXOPRIMAL, and while Gabe liked the bots and concepts the mode that he played in the open beta - Dino Survival - was essentially a kind of Gambit, PvP meets PvE sorta thing. He's not really looking for that right now. He would have a very good time up until the end of the level where it became direct PvP, and found the switch jarring. The full game has five other modes, so maybe one of those is more his speed. Wave-based survival shit with distinct mech suits you can switch between sorta sounds alright by itself! Given the deep culling of online service types games recently, it seems like wild time to launch something like this but I'm not Bob Capcom. I don't have the data! Maybe there's a chart somewhere that has a dinosaur on the x-axis and the line is going up.
There's too much I need to do before I head out to PAX East on Wednesday, so no brew/craft stream, but if you wanna see Kris Straub's rad art for this show's Voodoo Ranger collab, I have that here:
WHO'S GOING TO PAX EAST!?!?! @voodooranger #acquisitionsincorporated #acqinc CryoRanger IPA. A PAX East 2023 exclusive. Available at @pax March 23rd-26th in the Voodoo Ranger Acquisitions Incorporated Lounge, Southwest Lobby C. pic.twitter.com/wsCgnzXadR— BeardedTortuga (@BeardedTortuga) March 16, 2023
If you are a beer dork, you might be interested to know that this is the first time "cryo hops" have been used in the Voodoo Ranger line. If you're curious about what those might be, it's a process that separates the plant matter of the hop from the flavor compounds, creating a mystical dust that is bright and clean, with some of the traditional bite gone from the mix. You gotta get your mitts on it. These show collabs typically run out, so stop by the very moment that dark thirst takes you.
So, no stream from me tomorrow! Instead, we'll be doing our second session of BLACK REMNANT, our tender RPG/Wargame Battletech stream set in the IlClan Era. That's just a fancy way of saying it's set in the current timeline. Come see us at 2pm PST, but only if you like cool, fun things. It's me, Eric, and Kiko, and I never get to play RPGs with those guys so it's kinda rad.
I'm doing a bunch of interviews over PAX about The Kickstarter we're running to produce a new, recorded season of Acquisitions Incorporated. If there's a God in heaven, this thing will fund before the weekend is over so that the dark dreams will stop.
